Composition Study 0601
2024
Archival Inkjet Print Face-Mounted to Plexiglass, Back-Mounted to Aluminum Subframe
24 inches in diameter

The Beach Composition Study 0601 is a preliminary work that offers an in-depth exploration of the artist’s creative process, serving as a blueprint for larger compositions. In soft shades of sand and brown, the monochromatic piece introduces early motifs inspired by local histories and landmarks from Toronto’s Beach neighbourhood. Key elements include photos from the Toronto Archives, portraits from Bud’s Coffee Bar, and silhouettes of Fire Station 227 and the Leuty Lifeguard Station. The digital study lays the groundwork for the final piece, exploring how structure, colour, and symbolism evolve, allowing the artist to refine these elements before the larger, handmade composition is completed.

Each piece comes with a companion booklet, acting as a legend to uncover the source images and stories behind the details. Explore the PDF below to dive deeper into the artwork's meaning.
