For Composition 1017 Women and Song Study, this preliminary piece offers an in-depth look into the creative process behind Lesley Luce’s larger handmade works. Designed digitally, it serves as a blueprint where ideas for composition, colour, and structure evolve.

Inspired by the 1990s Women and Song compilation, this study features Canadian female musicians. The white, pink, and orange palette celebrates women’s contributions to the Canadian music scene, while the concentric circles evoke the strength and unity of women in music. This study explores different facets of femininity and invites viewers to reflect on the evolving representation of women in Canadian culture.

This work features portraits or icons representing women in Canadian music, including Alanis Morissette, Amanda Marshall, Annie “Holly” Woods, Anne Murray, Charlotte Cardin, Chantal Kreviazuk, Celine Dion, Diana Krall, Joni Mitchell, K.D. Lang, Leslie Feist, Measha Brueggergosman, Nelly Furtado, Rita MacNeil, Sarah McLachlan, Shania Twain, Susan Aglukark, Tanya Tagaq, Tegan & Sara, and The Beaches.
